Monongalia Forest School serves families with children aged 3 - 7 in the Morgantown, West Virginia area. Our Forest School is "family style" - everyone is welcome and encouraged to adventure with us!
Hi, I'm Katie.
In the summer of 2021, I was looking for Forest School type options for my four children in Morgantown, WV.
I found that the only forest school type organization in the area does not serve children younger than those entering 2nd grade.
My oldest child at the time was only 5 years old. I couldn't believe there wasn't something out there for families with younger children!
Monongalia Forest School is born!
I reached out to my friend Leah McDermott who has been successfully running a forest school in Oregon for years. She offered to share with me her nature-based curriculum.
I wanted a forest school that included families. This would cut back on costs and make it more affordable. But, more importantly, I wanted to help build confidence of both parents and children to get out in nature and explore!
I was so excited about making my family forest school dream happen that I set up my plan and website in just one weekend.
Family Forest School is Growing
The first fall of 2021, we had 13 families sign-up for Saturday sessions.
It was so popular that in the Spring of 2022 I added a weekday. That session we had 28 families join!
Family Forest School has evolved each session thanks to feedback from families on what they loved and what they want to see differently.
This fall is going to be our best session yet!
